Middle School Leader in Me
Since the first week of school the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students have benefited from learning about the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People once a week during an enrichment course. The course is team taught by Mr. Smolen, Rabbi Traiger, and Sheila Barbach. Having a dedicated period each week enhances the emphasis given to utilizing the 7 Habits in other classes. The course curriculum includes direct instruction on the 7 Habits, using a workbook and student journal along with experiential, project-based learning. The most recent sessions involved team-building and a cooperative learning activity that taught the students how to use the 7 Habits to actively and cooperatively participate on a Learning Team. They practiced important 21st century skills including effective communication, consensus building, and time management. As the school year progresses, all students will be able to experience how using the 7 Habits improves their academic achievement and helps them reach their personal goals.
